WHEN TO SURF SEYCHELLES

Surf in the Seychelles is most consistent during the southeast monsoon season, which runs from May to September. During this period, the waves are more powerful, and the surf conditions are generally better. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:

May to September (Southeast Monsoon)

  • Waves: More consistent and often larger, with swells coming from South Africa.

  • Weather: Cooler temperatures and stronger winds, which are favorable for surfing.

  • Crowds: Fewer tourists, as this is considered the off-peak season for general tourism but better for surfers.

  • Spots:

    • Mahe Island: Anse Aux Poules Bleues, Grand Anse, and Anse Gaulettes are popular spots.

October to April (Northwest Monsoon)

  • Waves: Less consistent and generally smaller, more suitable for beginners or casual surfing.

  • Weather: Warmer temperatures and calmer seas, which are better for snorkeling and diving but not usually ideal for surfing.

  • Crowds: Higher tourist numbers as this is the peak season for general visitors.

  • Best Spots: There are still surfable waves, but they are less reliable and typically smaller.

General Tips

  • Surf Equipment: Rentals are limited, so get in touch beforehand to see what we have available.

  • Local Knowledge: Engage with local surfers or surf schools to get up-to-date information on the best spots and conditions.

  • Safety: Always check the conditions and be aware of currents and reefs. Surf with a buddy or let someone know your plans.

Although waves are much less consistent during the Northwest Monsoon but if you do get lucky and get a good swell the scenery is out of this world and the beauty unforgettable.
